With a tradition of hard work, dedication and pride, Conservation Corps New Mexico engages individuals and strengthen communities in across southern New Mexico and western Texas through service and conservation.
Be prepared for challenging hands-on project work in backcountry or frontcountry settings!Adult Field Crews will travel regionally and complete challenging and impactful conservation service projects that include trail construction and maintenance, ecosystem restoration, fire fuels reduction, fencing, invasive weed removal (and more!), as well as participate in environmental education activities. Some crews will receive additional training in chainsaw use to complete projects which address fuels reduction, forest restoration needs and invasive species eradication. Positions range from 3-6 months depending on the term of service and position. Member compensation includes a $480/week living stipend, $120/week housing stipend, and an AmeriCorps education award upon completion of term. Crew Leader base pay ranges from $925-$1,125/week plus health insurance. In addition to paid training and an employee’s assistance program, CCNM provides field crews with tools and personal protective gear, a budget for crew meals, and transportation to and from the Las Cruces office to project sites during the eight days in the field. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 (up to age 37 for Veterans Fire Corps Crews), a U.S. citizen who has received a high school diploma or GED, and able to perform heavy manual labor tasks. Since 1926, Cottonwood Gulch Expeditions has been a trailblazer, leading expeditions across the stunning landscapes of New Mexico and the Southwest. Programs fall into three major categories: Summer treks are experiential learning opportunities for ages 8-18 that dive into pristine backpacking and hiking trails, hands-on science, cultural exploration, and place-based education in the American Southwest. School programs will take students on a journey of outdoor adventure, experiential learning, and environmental stewardship. Community programs include treks for adults, Youth Conservation Corps, and Wilderness Medicine certification programs.
Now seeking outdoor adventurers, scientists, artists, culturalists, cooks and others who are excited to share their knowledge and inspire young people to connect with the outdoors!Seasonal Field Educators collaborate to create and facilitate a place-based educational curriculum tailored to specific destinations and interests of partners as groups travel around the Southwest and to the 540-acre basecamp, with periods of time camping in frontcountry and backcountry settings. Responsibilities include teaching trekkers outdoor skills such as campsite selection and setup, navigation, and fire building, assisting with meal creation and nutrition, managing the packing and organization of gear, and support nightly campfires, games, teambuilding, and staff meetings. Preference will be given to staff able to work multiple seasons: spring (March 17th-May 30th), summer (June 1st-August 10th), and/or fall (August 18th-November 1st), with the possibility of additional work in the winter and beyond. Compensation ranges from $1,750-$2,500/month (DOE), plus bunkhouse style housing in Albuquerque and open-air cabins in Thoreau (both with WiFi access), meals, $250 travel stipend if traveling more than 500 miles, and pro deals. Rocky Mountain Youth Corps of New Mexico is a youth development program that puts young adults into community and environment service on public lands through an outdoor, hands-on teamwork model. From mountain peaks and desert plains to river gorges and urban streets, RMYC-NM is all over the state of New Mexico to help steward youth and the enchanting public lands we find ourselves in.
Through training and service, Corpsmembers discover their potential for healthy, productive lives while making a positive difference in the community. In partnership with federal, state, tribal and local land management agencies, conservation crews will engage in paid environmental, wilderness, and climate projects that may include chainsaw work, trail construction and maintenance, fencing, invasive species removal, ecological restoration, erosion control, historic preservation, or other community improvement work. 2025 positions begin on March 24th with work through either August 1st OR November 14th. Conservation program members work in a variety of locations with each position having varying schedules. Spike crews work for 8 days camping with their crew, followed by 6 days off. Day crews work Monday-Friday (going home every night) and have weekends off. Hybrid crews work on both day and spike schedules. Compensation includes a $1,240 stipend every 2 weeks, an AmeriCorps education award upon completion of term, paid trainings and certifications (may include CPR/first aid, WFA, Chainsaw S-212, Mental Health first aid, and more), 3 meals/day when on spike, and eligible for premium paid health insurance.
