Fairview Lake YMCA Camps

Environmental Education Instructors

Fairview Lake YMCA Camps provides a year-round residential outdoor education program that focuses on hands-on experiential education and outdoor courses for children in grades 2-8, and hosts conferences and retreats for a diverse group of people on the weekends. Located in the northwest corner of New Jersey, the 660-acre site with its 110-acre lake remains a virtually unspoiled natural wonderland that adjoins the Appalachian Trail and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The nearest town (small) is Newton and the campus is only an 1½ hour drive to New York City.

YMCA Job ListingAre you interested in teaching children about themselves and the nature that surrounds them? Environmental Education Instructors teach pre-approved academic curriculum for ecologies, facilitate the team-building course, and lead recreational activities that include archery, boating, climbing wall, hikes, science classes, campfire programs, and seasonally appropriate activities. Instructors will follow risk management guidelines at all times and provide opportunities so that each individual participant can experience success during an activity. Everyone will also lend a hand when it comes to projects and upkeep. Compensation starts at $15.54/hour plus meals when groups are at camp, housing (which includes a semiprivate room with a kitchen and living room complex), two weeks of paid training, and being part of an awesome community! A Bachelor's degree in teaching, biology, recreation or environment/outdoor education is preferred. Positions are available during the spring (March to mid-June) and fall (late August through November), with the opportunity to work multiple seasons (each with additional responsibilities). If you have a love and wonder for the natural world, enthusiasm working with children and are a team player and flexible in your teaching style, email your cover letter and resume to Julie Thomas.
